Basic editingUpdate pagesBy Howard Hayakawa
Edit a page, the basics. This works for basic pages that are visible in navigation. Hidden pages are done the same but you get to them differently.
We now have a video version of the instruction. Look at the top of the navigation menu for the "Video" page.
Now the written version.
First get to the page.
- Start by logging in.
- Choose a page to edit by clicking on the page name in the navigation.
- You'll see the page with some controls above it.
- Click the pencil icon
and the browser will pull the contents up for you to edit.
- You will see a variation of the contents with a bunch of editing controls above it. More on those controls later. We’ll do simple changes for now.
- Add words
- Type in place.
- Place your cursor where you want to add words and type.
- When you’re done entering or if you’ve entered a couple of lines, click ‘submit’. Do this even if you’re not done. If something happens and the browser restarts, you’ll lose everything since the last ‘submit’. This rarely happens until you type a few paragraphs without submitting.
- Cut and paste
- You can cut and paste from Word if you take a precaution.
- When you're ready to paste, click the 'paste from Word' icon
- Place the cursor in the white box.
- Cntl V to paste
- submit
- We use the
function to remove the MS Word format code that can prevent the editor from changing font and size.
- Delete words
- Deleting can be done just like in MS Word. One letter at a time using the ‘delete’ or ‘backspace’ key or selecting an area and cutting/deleting.
- Highlight – select the section and use the
Icon.
- Font Color – select the section use the
Icon.
- Font type and size are changed like in a word processor.
- Pictures:
- To insert a picture
- first put the cursor where you want the image to go.
- Then click the
Icon. This icon will bring up a way to upload and insert images.
- To upload, browse, open and upload. Uploading gets the image to the website.
- To insert, click on the image in the list and click OK.
- Step 2 is to place the picture.
- Click on the picture and you should see little marks at the corners of the picture.
- Click the
ICON. You’ll get a different control than last time.
- The right hand side is for positioning control. The top control has choices. Use left and right for now. Left puts the picture on the left and wraps words to the right. See the example below the control. As you click left or right, the example changes to match.
- Next is distance to surrounding text or border. These boxes will take negative numbers. Play with this to see what happens.
- Click submit to see the affect.
- Image borders.
- On the left of the previous control, there is a box for ‘border’. The number you enter is in pixels. Try a few values to see how big a pixel is.
NOTE: If you don''t log out, all of your pages will have the edit icons at the top. Don''t freak, only you see these, visitors don't see them. To make them go away, log out.
We have a demo site at www.ims-demo.com where you can practice without risking your site.
There is more but this is enough for a basic tutorial. If you can't find what you need, call your sales representative.
