Links to documents as part of navigationBy Howard Hayakawa
Links in Navigation
Sometimes you want to create a link in your navigation that immediately downloads a file and there is no webpage at all. This is often done for brochures. File name might be "2006 camping brochure". When a person clicks on it, they get the standard choice "open" or "download".
This is fairly advanced so we'll assume you know how to get to the admin panel.
- Get to admin panel
- Upload the file.
- find any page and click on the pencil.
- Highlight some text.
- Click the Doc Link
icon
- Browse, select, open and upload the file.
- Click Cancel
- Cancel the edit
- Click on
icon.
- Decide where you want the link. If you want it on the main navigation, click on the create link
icon next to the word "root".
- Fill in the blanks,
- chose "this is on my website",
- enter "/downloads/" followed by the filename (this is tricky so I'll give an example) If the file you uploaded is called gopher.doc, what you enter is "downloads/gopher.doc". Leave out the quotation marks.
- Click submit
- Go to website to make sure it works.
- Go seek recognition.
